Screencasting!

Web Page students create very professional, 30-second “How To” movies on a variety of computer tasks!  These tutorials can be used by novice, intermediate, or advanced computer users…anyone searching how to perform a task.

  • Students first selected which task to demonstrate in an application
  • Students then used Screencast-o-matic, a free online recording tool, to record the task.  While performing the on-screen mouse movements, the student used a microphone to describe the task
  • The recorded task is then imported into MovieMaker to polish the video – inserting a title, transitions, and credits

Spotlight: Web Page Mania!

CSSMania –  a website that showcases websites

“Only beautiful websites written in XHTML/HTML5/CSS (tableless)” are accepted at CSSMania

Web page designers find inspiration at CSSMania.  Their galleries of websites can be searched by hexidecimal color codes, by developer country, by portal, by media,  or by other website topics.

Maplewood Web Page students find inspiration at CSSMania Galleries by selecting a hexidecimal color then selecting a website that utilizes that color in its design.  Screenshots are uploaded to Google Sites and text describing the meaning of color completes the lesson’s activity

Spotlight: Per. 2 Accounting

The Psychology of Money is a relatively new and dynamic field. Many researchers, economists, psychologists, and financial advisers conduct studies to determine just why we behave as we do with our money. This complex field provides insight into our income-earning power, our budgeting philosophies, our shopping strategies, our retirement incentives, our coupon or rebate motives, and our tendency toward gambling.

Accounting students talk a bit about MONEY: “Does having more money really make us happy?”

Human behavior in relation to money – how we earn it, how we spend it, how it motivates us – is of interest to many organizations. Retailers, restaurants, casinos, fitness organizations, counseling groups, government agencies, schools, banking institutions, insurance companies, etc. – they all pay close attention to valid research on the psychology of money to provide services and sell products.
